Abstract

On 3 November 2016, a Round Table Discussion on Contemporary Issues and Challenges of Zakat Management in Malaysia was jointly organised by the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia, the Selangor Board of Zakat (LZS) and the National Secretariat of Zakat Management (SPZN). Dato’ Charon Mokhzani from the Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) stated that the main issue to be solved in Malaysia is poverty eradication, related to increasing rates of unemployment among youths, large income disparities, and rising cost of living. Therefore, a holistic approach to ending poverty in all forms should be adopted.
