Abstract

Civilisational Renewal combines individual efforts with communal resources and hopes, and with national needs and vision. ICR works to nurture and support these efforts at all levels, and seeks to offer relevant and timely advice to meet demands of our time. We welcome readers to our April issue which addresses a variety of needs and interests.

The three initial articles combine to provide contrasting perspectives on significant applications of Islamic Fiqh within contemporary societies. The eminent former Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad offers a valuable overview on differences in implementing the Hudud laws in Brunei and Malaysia, which will surely be of comparative relevance for a wide range of contemporary Muslim societies. Tun Abdul Hamid’s legal acumen and humane moderation shines throughout his article, as he offers insights to guide future legal reforms.
